Patsy Vocabulary
Good readers develop new vocabulary as they read. Look for unfamiliar, unusual, interesting or puzzling words as you read.
For example-
Word: humilation (Rebecca)
Sentence from the story: Intially, life with the Dodgers was for Jackie a series of humilations.
Meaning of the word: to be reduced to a lower postion in one's own eyes or the eyes of another
Word: Stuttered (Brooke)
Sentence from the story: But when I stuttered she just said, "Patsy, don't upset yourself so."
Meaning of the word: To speak or utter with a spasmodic repetition or prolongantion of sounds.
Word: cypress (Alexa)
Sentence: And when I reached the cypress grove I saw everyone sitting on logs and on theground and around clearing.
Meaning of word: Any of several evergreen coniferous trees constituting the genus cupressus having dark-green, scalelike, overlapping leaves.
